Google Cloud

Posted on November 20, 2019 by globalappsblog

The Google Cloud Platform (GCP) uses Google’s infrastructure to provide you with a range of cloud computing services. These services include Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, computing, data storage, and analytics. GCP utilises cloud adaption technology to continually improve the services offered. This has led to claims that Google cloud services are “future proof”.

There are many companies that offer a similar package of cloud computing solutions, but with Google being one of the world’s largest tech companies they have some unique offerings.

Automated application deployment

Modern applications are created from many different tools and resources. This has led developers to become cloud native, building apps directly within the cloud. Google created Kubernetes to manage workloads and ensure that all the component parts of an app work in tandem. This is part of Google’s efforts to automate as many aspects of cloud services and app development as possible.

Precision Costing

GCP isn’t necessarily the cheapest option for cloud services available. However, the way they charge can be more precise than their competitors, giving you a better deal. GCP analyses usage rates for processing power, network connectivity, database queries, and data storage. It charges you for use of this services on a per second basis. Most of their competitors charge on a per minute basis, so you may end up paying for more than you actually use. GCP also offers value for money is certain specific services. Like providing a lifecycle manager that allows you to delete or offload objects that haven’t been used for 30 days.

Easy to use

As with all Google products a lot of effort is put into designing an intuitive user interface. For many businesses and individuals who are new to cloud computing it can all seem very complicated and overwhelming. Google cloud adoption is made easy thanks to easy to follow instructions and tutorials for the most common jobs. On the other hand, few of their competitors offer any sort of cloud adaption program.

Other services offered as part of GCP:

  • Google Compute Engine – Hosts virtual machines
  • Google App Engine – Tools and languages for software developers
  • Google Cloud Storage – Data storage
  • Nearline – Backup and archive data
  • Anthos – Organize and maintain applications
  • Big Query – Data warehousing
  • Cloud Bigtable – Organizes data into key/value pairs
  • Cloud Translation – Text-to-speech and speech-to-text
  • Apigee – For producing and managing APIs
  • Istio – Database of micro-services
  • Cloud AutoML – Enables applications to utilize machine learning
  • Cloud Run – Makes apps seem to run locally instead of on the cloud
